중복 제거 백업 시스템을 구현하는 방식은 소스 기반(SBA: Source-Based Approach), 인라인(ILA: In-Line Approach) 그리고 포스트 프로세스(PPA: Post-Process Approach) 접근 방식으로 분류된다. 현재 대부분의 상용 시스템은 ILA 또는 PPA 방식으로 구현되어 운영되고 있으며, 일부 연구진을 중심으로 SBA가 연구되고 있다. 중복 제거 시스템이 널리 사용되면서 운영 환경에 따라서 적합한 방식을 선정하는 것이 중요해지고 있다. 왜냐하면, 각 방식의 오버헤드 및 자원 사용량 등이 분석되지 않아서, 일부 운영 환경에서 자원 사용의 비효율성과 성능 저하를 초래할 수 있기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 다중 모드를 지원하는 중복 제거 백업 시스템을 제안하고 있으며, 제안하는 시스템은 사용자가 지정하는 모드로 동작이 될 수 있으므로 다양한 환경에서 사용될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 중복 제거 시스템을 SBA, ILA 그리고 PPA로 동작시키면서 각각의 성능을 비교 분석함으로 각 모드 별 특징과 장단점을 분석하고 그 결과를 제시하였다.

(English Abstract) |
The implementation approaches of data deduplication backup system divide into several modes including SBA (source-based approach), ILA (in-line approach) and PPA (post-process approach). Currently, most commercial systems are implemented and operated in an ILA and PPA approach, and some researchers have focused on the SBA approach. As data deduplication systems are widely used, to choose an appropriate mode considering operation environment becomes more and more important than ever. Because the overhead of each mode and resource usage was not fully studied, in some operating environments, use of system resources can lead to inefficiency and poor performance. In this study, we propose a data deduplication system supporting multi-mode. The proposed system can be operated in a mode that a user specifies, therefore, this system can be used in various environments. In this paper, we operate the proposed system with the SBA, ILA, and PPA mode, respectively, and we present the measurement results with a comparative analysis of the mode-specific performance and overhead.
